Submitted by: Angela Mullin | Swan Valley HS Rodeo hosted a MB HS Rodeo this past weekend (May 11-13, 2018) and it was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the grounds were amazing, great food, spectators & competition!

The weekend started with a Jackpot Barrel race! The fast time was run in the Junior added money race, Rayna Mortensen from North Dakota clocked a 17.7!

Saturday morning the Swan River Lions hosted a successful pancake breakfast at the infield booth, pancakes & sausage done to perfection!

Rodeo kicked off at 10am with the flags of rodeo, O Canada, sang by our own Bailey Langevin!

Contestants from Saskatchewan, Manitoba,Ontario & North Dakota competing for points to earn their way to Canadians & Nationals!

Local riders Jenna McKay (MHSRA member), Kaleigh Currie, Mackenzie Currie, Jillian Hrycyk, Sierra Urban and Liv Leadbeater all competed in the HS rodeo.

The Kinsmen has their booth open for lunch, severing their famous Big K burger!

After the rodeo on Saturday the Little buckaroos took over the arena, 25 entry’s with more than half from our valley!

Goat un-decorating, Goat tying, calf riding, barrels, poles, Bucky riding & dummy roping! Kids in Kindergarten to grade 5 competed & all were awarded a little buckaroos neck tie.. made by Jenna’s Rags (Jenna McKay)

After a long day of rodeo the kids & family’s had a pizza supper, brought to the grounds by Pizza Place. Donkey Ball has become a favourite Saturday night experience, the kids all had a great time! With the Jets in the playoffs many parents & kids were hoping to get to watch the game, Lance Jacobson came through with a dish & receiver! Everyone was very thankful!

Sunday, the weather was great again and the families that travelled to compete in Swan River this weekend appreciated it!

Our committee would like to thank the Swan Valley Ag Society and their members who helped out this weekend and days before getting ready! The Swan River Lions & Kinsmen for feeding the competitors and spectators. The local business that support our rodeo, we have tremendous support & we appreciate it very much! Come out in June to watch the MB HS Rodeo Finals right here in Swan River! June 8-10, lots to see & do!
