Swan Valley Co-op is investing in an anhydrous ammonia (NH3) fertilizer storage facility at its Benito Ag Site. The facility will store approximately 800 metric tons of anhydrous ammonia fertilizer to supply to agricultural producers throughout the Swan Valley area. The capacity of this facility is 4.5 times the current storage the Co-op has. Benito was chosen as the location of the project as it exceeds the recommended safety setbacks of anhydrous ammonia code of practice requirements. The project is currently in the due diligence phase with an expected completion in Fall 2018.

“Since we have experienced logistical issues in the past with obtaining adequate volumes of NH3 to supply our farm customers, our Co-op felt it necessary to make this investment to support the needs of our local agricultural producers.

It shows our commitment to be the trusted business partner our customers require,” said Jim Sutherland, Agro Manager.

“Swan Valley Co-op is committed to make sustainable investments in the communities we serve and supplying the needs of our agricultural customers” said Colin Peters, General Manager of Swan Valley Co-op. “Making these investments is one of many ways we grow our communities, whether it’s by supporting local agricultural producers that are feeding the world right here in our own backyard, or supplying work for local contractors.”

Swan Valley Consumers Co-operative Limited has been committed to investing in our community since April 17, 1940, and that throughout our history we have shared our profits with our loyal members – by paying cash back and equity through annual patronage allocations. Over the past four years alone Swan Valley Consumers Co-operative Limited has paid back over nine million dollars to our members.
