Over 250 Served at Benito Firemen’s Association Supper

Submitted by: Leigh Osatchuk |The Annual Benito Firemen’s Association Supper held at the Benito Rec Centre on Sunday Feb. 25, 2018 was a huge success. The volunteer firefighters and their families hosted the Swan Valley and surrounding area for a terrific meal.

Community members showed their support by either cooking turkeys or donating supper items that was served out buffet style. Numerous desserts delighted everyone with a sweet tooth as well. Several members of volunteer departments from neighboring towns in Manitoba and Saskatchewan were in attendance to show their support.

At the end of the evening over 250 people were served allowing the department to generate funds to help purchase a Thermal Imagining Camera. This camera will allow firefighter to quickly find the origin of a structure fire, or see the heat signature of visually obscured victims. They can be used to search for victims outdoors on a cool night, spot smoldering fires inside a wall, or detect overheating electrical wiring.

Rounding out the evening was a penny auction with many generous prizes from local businesses in Benito, Swan Valley West and the Town of Swan River. Congratulations to all the winners from the evening, and a huge THANK YOU to all the businesses that contributed to the prosperous evening.”
