Swan Valley Refugee Committee to Begin Planning Phase

Exciting News!!! Donations are coming in and soon we will be able to start the paperwork and planning phase with the Mennonite Central Committee for our first family.

Government, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and local organizations select refugees who are unable to return home and are unable to remain where they are. While MCC also provides humanitarian relief to areas of conflict and provides psychological care for traumatized individuals, refugee resettlement is the only recourse for those involved in this project. Our willingness to accept refugees in your community has an incredible impact on people’s lives.

In the planning phase, we work with MCC to develop a detailed budget specific to our community. The costs of the resettling refugees depends on how many members of the family are being resettled. Also, many sponsoring groups donate good household items to significantly reduce the costs. The Swan Valley Refugee Committee is currently looking for storage space to start collecting household items.

Please consider a donation. Tax receiptable donations can be made at:
The Town of Swan River
Valley Evangelical Covenant Church, Durban
St. Andrew’s United Church, Swan River
First Baptist Church, Minitonas

or Non-tax receitable donations can be made to The Swan Valley Refugee Fund at The SV Credit Union acct#110030323296.
Thank you to those who have already donated!
