This training was conducted by Canadian Triple P Trainer Peggy Govers from Collingwood, Ontario. Thirteen community members participated in a four day Triple P Group and Teen Group Facilitator training on February 17-20th, 2016.

Once these individuals become certified they will be able to deliver this model parenting program in the Swan Valley. In these workshops, facilitators learned how to assist parents in strengthening their bonds with their children and learn strategies to promote healthy lifestyle choices.

“The Positive Parenting Program is a helpful, practical approach to raising children that focuses on the positive. Triple P uses strong, nurturing relationships, good communication and positive attention to help children develop. It helps create a family setting that is loving, supportive and predictable. The program uses easy-to-follow suggestions for small changes that make big differences to parents. Triple P is one of the few parenting programs in the world that’s been scientifically proven to work. It has been tested in more than 130 international studies. For more than 30 years, Triple P has helped hundreds of thousands of families deal with issues ranging from temper tantrums to disobedience, bedtime dramas to homework battles, to school bullying. So you can be sure that whatever your parenting needs are no matter how simple or how complex – Triple P can help.”

What happens at Group Triple P?
– opportunity to meet other parents in similar situations, with similar problems
– tips and suggestions to suit the needs of your family
– see how the ideas work in real life by watching scenes from the Every Parent’s Survival Guide DVD
– workbook activities to give you tools and information you can use right away
– A Triple P practitioner to guide the sessions and provide backup phone support as you start to use new skills

Triple P Group Parent training is a result of the Swan Valley Communities That Care Community Action Plan and follows within the SVCTC’s vision of safe, healthy children and youth through an involved and committed community.

Workshop materials are provided to parents at no cost. Dinner and child care will also be provided to participants at no cost courtesy of Swan Valley Communities That Care. Dinner and child care will be available on site each evening of the parent workshop session. This is a great opportunity for all parents of youth ages 0-14 to engage their family and encourage positive adolescent behaviours. Watch for upcoming Triple P Parent workshop sessions.
