The Blue Sky Arena Team Penning club is set to host their fall Jackpot once again, and this year it’s bigger and better! Save the dates, September 12 & 13 in Benito.
At our annual meeting this past spring the club met to plan the season and brainstormed some great ideas.
1. Turn our one day event into a two day trail ride-penning combo
2. Improved seating for our spectators
3. A fenced play area and sandbox for our kids
4. Bigger prize payouts!
Trial Ride – Saturday September 12, 2015
Stan Foster has coordinated the trail ride which will leave from the Blue Sky grounds at 11:00 am (MB time) on Saturday, September 12, $10/person. The 10 mile ride is open to riders and wagons, includes lunch, and will be followed by a potluck supper back at the arena (6 ish). Anyone wishing to overnight at the arena grounds is welcome to do so. Camping is free, however, there is no power. Contact Stan or Sharon for information, 204-539-2345.
With help from our generous sponsors, Graziers Custom Manufacturing Limited, and Spruce Products Limited, our new bleachers went from dream to reality. We now have a beautiful 7-tier bleacher with a roof to shelter under, and the view is amazing!
Brenda Foster lead the sandbox project and in very short order we had a sand hill, a good fence, and more sand box toys than a kid can wear out. It’s all tucked up close to the bleachers and the action in the arena so no one misses a moment.
Jodi Suchoplas took on the challenge of fundraising and it’s climbing steadily with $950 in added prize money to date. This just wouldn’t be possible without the support of our generous sponsors: Benito Premium Meats Ltd., Formo Motors, Benito Servicentre, Redline Chrysler, Cement Works Inc, Dufresne Furniture & Appliances, WS Schneider & Son Insurance, MNP, and NAPA Auto Parts. Every year we close out the fall jackpot by awarding buckles to the top team of the day, and this year’s Buckle Sponsors are Doak’s Bulk Fuel, Riddell’s Plumbing & Heating Ltd., and McKay Real Estate & Auction Co.
Team Penning Jackpot – Sunday September 13, 2015
Last but not least, our jackpot which starts at 11:30 am (MB time) on Sunday, September 13. Advanced registration is required this year, and teams can register by calling Sharon Foster at 204-539-2345 or 204-281-8176. Deadline for registration is 6 pm on Saturday September 5. Youth teams will run right before the lunch break. Colleen Langevin has donated her time and cooking skills to run the canteen that day.
Blue Sky Arena is located ½ mile west of the junction of Hwy’s 83 & 49, just south of Benito. Spectators and new team penners are always welcome, practices are run weekly throughout the summer.
