The Winnipeg Blue Devils and Brandon Wheat City Wings played on our home turf for the first time.

The first game between our Tiger Fire and Winnipeg Blue Devils was played at 10 am. The Blue Devils came out strong and were able to get past our defense and new goalie with a score of 17-4. Our team played hard and they had a lot of close shots off the post and off the cross bar.

The Blue Devils and Wheat City Wings were evenly matched in the second game. The score was tied 4-4 until the last period when the Blue Devils scored 2 points for the win 6-4.

The teams were then treated to a delicious chili and bun lunch provided by Culinary Arts Instructor Doug Chapman. Many of the athletes went up for seconds and had a chance to visit with the other teams.

At 1:30 the Wheat City Wings played our Tiger Fire. Tiger Fire played well but could not get past the Brandon defense. #4 Brennan Sauder scored the only goal for the Tigers and the Wings took the game 5-1.

The Blue Devils and Wheat City Wings played the final game with the Devils taking the win 5-2. The Devils had a couple of hours to rest up and came out strong. The Wings played back to back games and played a great game.

The Blue Devils took home 1st, the Wheat City Wings 2nd and Tiger Fire 3rd.

Tiger’s Coach June Mosiondz was impressed with the team. She said they played awesome all together and their skills are coming along. There were lots of good passes and lots of good teamwork. The tournament was a good opportunity to see where our Tiger Fire have to improve in order to get ready for the Provincial Winter Games in Winnipeg at the end of February. The Winter Games determines which team will represent Manitoba in the National Winter Games in Corner Brook, Nfld. in 2016.

Our Tiger Fire played the Blue Devils and Wheat City Wings last year at the Kinsmen Winter Games in Winnipeg and took home 1st place. They have a month to hone their skills to qualify for the Nationals.
