Fire Department Busy with Structure Fires in Swan River

On Saturday January 10, 2015 at 11:32 Swan River Fire, Swan River RCMP and Prairie Mountain EMS were paged to a structure fire on 9th Avenue North. Upon arrival smoke was contained inside the building with no visible fire showing.

It was determined that the fire was located in the basement area of the structure. Fire crews commenced with an offensive attack and entered the basement. With high heat conditions and fire breaking through into the upper levels command ordered an evacuation of the structure and assumed a defensive posture. At approximately 17:00 fire crews left the scene and 9th Avenue North was reopened.

At 12:16 while involved with operations at 9th Avenue North emergency services were paged to a structure fire at the Swan Valley Co-op on Kelsey Trail. Upon arrival it was determined that a fire was discovered in a storage room in the car wash area. Swan River crews commenced with the initial attack and requested the Minitonas Fire Department to assist. The fire was quickly extinguished.

At this time there were no reported injuries. Both fires were not deemed suspicious. Cause is under investigation.
