Town of Minitonas Minutes – January 22, 2014

Regular Meeting of the members of Council of the Town of Minitonas, held in the Council Chambers, Minitonas, Manitoba this 22nd day of January, 2014 A.D. at 7:00 p.m.

1. S. Windsor – J. Caruk
RESOLVED THAT the Agenda be adopted as presented.
Carried.

2. S. Windsor – D. Bartel
RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Town of Minitonas do hereby authorize CAO, Carolyn Gordon to submit a request for Grant-In-Aid Funding to Manitoba Infrastructure & Transportation for the application of dust control on 700m of 2nd Avenue.

3. D. Bartel – J. Caruk
WHEREAS the Minitonas Town Council, in cooperation with the Minitonas Age Friendly Committee wishes to establish a system of walking trails throughout the community, and;
WHEREAS the Council agrees that this is a great opportunity to provide a safe way for local residents of all ages to be physically active and will also be a wonderful enhancement to our community;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT we do hereby authorize CAO, Carolyn Gordon to make an application under the Active Transportation Fund;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT letters of support shall be requested from Swan Valley School Division, local organizations and the local recreation district acknowledging the benefits of developing local walking trails in Minitonas.

4. J. Caruk – S. Windsor
RESOLVED THAT a gratuity in the amount of $100.00 shall be made to the students of SVRSS Carpentry Program in appreciation for their hard work building picnic tables for the Welcomestop Campground, and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT said gratuity shall be presented as a gift certificate from Kneaden Take-Out.

5. J. Caruk – D. Bartel
WHEREAS costs for maintenance and repairs to the Minitonas Library Building have significantly increased in the last few years, but the rental rates charged for the 2nd Floor Space has remained unchanged;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT we do hereby agree to increase the monthly rental to cover said cost increase and shall present the attached contract to the tenant for the 2014 Calendar Year.

6. S. Windsor – D. Bartel
WHEREAS the added costs for improvements and repairs to the Water/Sewer System have caused a deficit in the Town’s Utility for the past three consecutive years;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Town of Minitonas does hereby authorize CAO, Carolyn Gordon to undertake a Water Rate Study and begin preparing an application to the Public Utility Board for an increase in Water/Sewer Rates.

RESOLVED THAT we do now adjourn at 9:50 pm to meet again for the next regular meeting of Council to be held on the 5th day of February, 2014 A.D. at 7:00 pm.
