Town of Swan River Minutes – June 4, 2013

The Council of the Town of Swan River met on Tuesday, June 4th at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers with Deputy Mayor Jason Delaurier presiding and Councillors Bobick, Jacobson, Friesen, Whyte and Sakal present. Mayor Glen McKenzie absent.

Delegations:

Joe Mante, Manager of the Richardson & Recreation Wellness Center was introduced to Council.

Minutes:

1. RESOLVED that the minutes of the May 21st, 2013 regular meeting of Council be adopted as received.

2. RESOLVED that the Agenda for the June 4th, 2013 regular meeting of Council be received.

WHEREAS the third week in June has been designated as Public Service Week by an act of Parliament; and
WHEREAS professional public service employees at all levels are continually finding new and better ways to deliver services to citizens; and
WHEREAS through dedication, partnership and cooperation, public service employees provide Canadians with the services that make our society safe and prosperous; and
WHEREAS public servants at all levels continually prove their dedication and importance by working as a team in both their official capacities and with events beneficial to their communities;and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT KNOWN THAT I, Jason Delaurier, Deputy Mayor of the Town of Swan River, do hereby proclaim the week of June 9th – 15th, 2013 as Public Service Week in the Town of Swan River and do commend its thoughtful observance to all citizens of our community.

3. RESOLVED that the Financial Statement for the month ended April 30th, 2013 be adopted as received.

4. WHEREAS the Town of Swan River recognizes the importance of strengthening the Swan Valley’s regional identity and the foundation for future regional marketing efforts;
AND WHEREAS Swan Valley RISE Inc. and the Swan Lake Watershed Conservation District have prepared an application to the 2013-14 Partner 4 Growth Program for funding to install community welcome signs and regional identification signs within the boundaries of the Swan Valley;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Swan River support the application to the 2013-14 Partner 4 Growth Program.

5. RESOLVED that the Town of Swan River administration be authorized to sign an agreement allowing the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 39 to construct a wooden lean-to enclosure to a maximum of 2’ onto the Public Lane Right of Way immediately east of the Legion building. This agreement is attached as Schedule “A”.

6. RESOLVED that the Town of Swan River enter into an agreement with Swan Valley Lions Inc. which grants authority to Swan Valley Lions Inc. to operate the Town’s back-up garbage truck (Unit #110) from June 4th to December 31st, 2013 under the conditions in the agreement dated June 4th, 2013.

7. RESOLVED that the Council authorize a grant of $1,000 to the Association for Community Living.

10. RESOLVED that the purchase of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado from Powell Motors for the price of $20,364.00 be hereby approved.

12. RESOLVED that the 1975 Chevrolet Mini Pumper (in as is condition) be sold to Darin McKay for the sum of $3,300.

(1) General Accounts from Cheque No. 13202 to No. 13263 for a total of $153,400.78.
(2) Payroll Account from Cheque No. 3082 to No. 3089 for a total of $84,153.86.
