Jim Makichuk was raised in Benito in the late 1950s and Emperor of Mars is a fictionalized account of the years he spent growing up there. Makichuk, who currently resides in Los Angeles, has 18 film and television credits to his name including Highlander, Gentle Ben the Movie and The Town that Christmas Forgot.
