Town Of Swan River Minutes – May 1st, 2012

The Council of the Town of Swan River met on Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers with Mayor McKenzie presiding and Councillors Bobick, Jacobson, Whyte and Sakal present. Councillors Friesen and Delaurier were absent.

RESOLVED that the Agenda for the May 1st, 2012 regular meeting of Council be received.

RESOLVED that Duane Whyte’s attendance at the Medical Services Committee meetings held in Minitonas on March 15th, 2012 and April 26th, 2012 be approved.

RESOLVED that Josh Parson’s request to take 34 weeks Parental Leave from May 14th, 2012 to January 14th, 2013 be approved.

RESOLVED that the offer from Derwin Rooks for the 1998 International as per Schedule “A” attached be approved.

RESOLVED that By-Law No. 6/2012 being a By-Law of the Town of Swan River to set rates for taxation for the year 2012, be read a first time.

(1) General Accounts from Cheque No. 11329 to No.11386 for a total of $140,915.41.
(2) Payroll Account from Cheque No. 2836 to No. 2844 for a total of $85,305.81.

RESOLVED that the accounts for the Swan Valley Recreation & Wellness Project – Loan Account be hereby approved.

WHEREAS the issue of hunger continues to plaque people; especially children whom are caught up in poverty and through no fault of their own are thrust into daily situations of being hungry.
WHEREAS this should not be acceptable in a country such as Canada that has enough food.
WHEREAS the Food Bank in the Town of Swan River helps those in desperate situations.
THEREFORE the Mayor and Council hereby proclaim the week of May 7th to May 11th, 2012 as “Hunger Awareness Week” in the Town of Swan River.

RESOLVED that the Adult Lounge being hosted by the Summer Games Hospitality Committee on Friday, July 20th, 2012 in the Legion Park be declared a community event.
