The hope is that everyone has a chance to come to the event and find out a little bit of the history and culture that helped establish the Swan River Valley.

Folk Fest or Centennial Folk Fest as its official name, was formed in 1998 as an event to coincide with the Valley’s Centennial year. A small group of people from various cultural backgrounds wanted to showcase the cultures that have been an integral part of the valley. With money from their own pockets and very little contributions from outside bodies, the 9-culture organizers got together to have an event, similar to Folkorama in Winnipeg, and feature displays, songs, dance and food from the various cultures.

The event proved to be successful enough with roughly 3000 people coming through the doors that organizers decided to try and make this event happen again in future years. The decision to run every 2-3 years was to provide enough time to get entertainers lined up as well as not run into other community events such as the Annual Loggers and Haulers Exhibition.

Over the years, the same groups have come back to participate in the event as well as additional cultures joining in with 16 cultures to date. Entertainment comes in from all over the province as well as showcasing some of the local talent that the Swan River Valley has to offer. The entertainment line up is never the same and runs approximately every half hour.

Come out and enjoy the diverse heritage and culture of the Swan River Valley.
